i managed to upload one of a few pics i took when i was out in temperatures of -12,these for uk are quiet good cold recordings,i had to use my phone as my cameras battery just died out there,hope to try to pull out some more from the phone,but my bluetooth is a bit dodgy..

set another snare today,this is my prefered method for small game..something is triggering off my first snare,could be too sensitive,so it could be the wind when it gets stronger..

i had an old german sleeping bag lying around,not being used..this is designed to wear as well as sleeping in,but ive never had the need or use ..so i cut it in half and will now use it as an inner layer,providing it doesnt get wet it should provide good insulation..I also made some over mitts from it,these i first saw being used by inuits,obvisiously they were fur...Over mitts are large and designed to wear over normal mittens..I hope to fur trim these providing my traps are full.

just a film i want to recommend..its called the last trapper..dont expect good acting..but its about norman winthers ,who plays himself...a trapper living of the land in canada..brilliaint scenery and huskies galore...well worth a ganders...

having moved into a very quiet spot,ive decided to try my luck at some rabbits,there is a very big warren near my campsite,so i may get lucky..
I was shown this snare method many years ago,in some unforgiving wet enviroment..enjoy..

ive been working on a new snare,it works as a trigger and spring release,the string is secured around the log,a stone is placed there for extra support,if an animal ventures into the noose,the slightess movement will release the string causes the spring sapling to fly up,hopefully with my dinner secured..ive lost too many meals to foxes before...

saw bluebell spikes this morning,and daffodil spikes in gardens..the birds were singing much happier songs..
i did some work on my little lean too.still a bit to finish,this acts as a little shelter on one of my stops if the weathers bad.

WINTER 2009/2010..MY THOUGHTS.

This years winter has been demanding..heavy rains,very cold temperatures for the uk,i recorded -12 one day at my camp area.
I found myself wet through on a number of occasions,and even resulted to using an old rangers coppicing fire to dry off.I found it difficuilt to sit and enjoy nature in the rain,even the trees make you feel unwelcome.
i swapped clothing around,and found the only option would be more expensive clothing.im currently looking at some sort of parka,or maybe a swandri long ranger coat...I a woollen hat useless as it just stretches and hangs limp,ive now invested in a trapper hat.ive also brought a new shemagh, see previous postings..When im moving around i hate the restriction of a large coat but it seems this is the only option.
My german para boots failed miserably,and i ended up using my hitec hiking boots..the para boots were rubbish in the cold..
I hate the idea of having to buy expensive clothing to be warm and dry,the free way of getting furs and wearing them is frowned upon these days,and i would probaraly get locked up.lol.
Ive started wearing my thick wooly jumper over my swandri rannger shirt,this is working well.
But i still lack the over jacket.I found my thighs were cold in surplus combats,a parka would help overcome this...My gaiters work well.Carrying my wool blanket/poncho was good for putting on at campsite,i would still like to get a grey one,ive even seen one made into a good jacket..
Did i enjoy my times out?YES ,i love the desolation of winter and the challenges of the weather..But now at this time of year my eyes and ears are looking for the signs of spring..
