i have been considering the idea of an underground shelter for some time now... i started the makings of a fox hole today,im not sure how it will look in the end,but its worth a try,and hopefully it will not be found..
ive toyed around with flint for sometime now hoping to produce an arrow head, but no good results,i was given some advice to try glass so i had a go today and produced an arrow head.
i currently am using a leuku scandi blade, over the years i have found one fault with this style of blade and that is the lack of a raised bevel makes it difficuilt to split larger logs when battoning, the lack of a significant raised bevel doesnt force the wood apart instead it acts like a cheese wire, only cutting not splaying.... i am going to try this out with a machete to see how it performs.
tried out the dakota fire pit method today,it burned well although there was still some smoke from the damp wood,i think it would work better in a larger pit,and bigger air hole..it consumed pine wood very quickly..
nice and crispy this morning, then it turned into a thick freezing fog,a bit of rabbit and pheasant activity but nature still sleeps, worked on my earth lodge...
